What is the yearly salary for an average Caterer?

Catering is something that I think I would LOVE to look into as a profession, but as with most things, money is an issue. Can anyone help me out? Also any tips for how to get started on the path to catering would be wonderful. Thanks. What is the yearly salary for an average Caterer?
Catering is a business, not a profession and not established on a "salary" basis. As a caterer, you have to drum up business; learn how to bid prices for different types and sizes of jobs (e.g., wedding receptions, business luncheons, family parties, children's birthdays) in such a way that people want to pay for the job but you are able to make money (after subtracting costs for materials and whatever extra labor you need). You need to decide whether you're going to work through a catering "hall" or through on-site deliveries, as that determines what sort of "capital" expenses you need. One way to 'get started' is to get a job with a catering company so you can learn-the-ropes through hands-on experience. Make yourself invaluable to the boss on that job and you may learn the "secrets" of how to make it all work. You might also want to figure out a way to put money aside tobe able to buy-a-catering-business that already exists.
