We're having an outdoor wedding next April, and I do not want to purchase massive amounts of alcohol and leave it on a table- does anyone know of portable bar caterers in the Slidell area (north of New Orleans) or at least what to look for?Any bar caterers in Slidell, LA?
Make sure your venue permits this. Then, ask what they recommend. You have a few options unless they have restrictions on what you can do.
You can purchase the alcohol and mixers and leave them on a table for people to mix their own. If you go to a large liquor store like Canals you can tell them how many people and what you want and they can hook you up. They also allow you to return unopened bottles which is a bonus. You can suply laminated drink cards on the table with recepies on them for people to try as well.
You can purchase your own alcohol and hire a bartender to help out at the bar. A bartender can come from a local bar (hit some up and ask if they work on the side!) or a bartending school (Google or phonebook) and some caterers. A bartender will help keep the flow under control and will be able to help with the mixing. They usually run ~$150 and may or may not accept tips.
You can hire a full bar service from a caterer. Ask your caterer to recommend one or your venue to recommend one. They would bring their own setup and charge a nominal fee, either flat or based on consumption. Look in the Yellowpages for this.
